An RBT study plan should turn your start date, exam date, and available hours per day into a dated review calendar. This generator assigns every calendar day before the exam to one RBT Test Content Outline domain, weights total hours by the scored-item blueprint, and does not predict a BACB exam result.

Generator Inputs#

The widget turns three candidate-entered fields into a browser-only study plan.

InputWhat to enterHow the generator uses it
Plan startThe first calendar date you want assigned to studyStarts the daily sequence
Exam dateThe planned examination dateStops the plan before the exam date
Hours per dayA positive number from more than 0 through 24Assigns the same study time to each listed day

The calculator schedules every calendar day from the start date through the day before the exam date. It does not have fields for days per week, weak-area confidence, completed lessons, missed-question filters, or a reserved final-review block. Entering a smaller hours-per-day value is the current way to make the calendar lighter.

The broader how to study for the rbt exam guide explains how to combine the calendar with recall practice, task pages, notes, and practice-item review. Use that guide when the question is study method rather than date math.

After the calendar assigns a domain, the free quick practice run route can give a short mixed set without changing the generator's date calculation.

Rules and Assumptions#

The generator follows the BACB's published exam scope, then applies transparent planning assumptions from the implemented widget.

Rule or assumptionSource or statusHow it affects the plan
Prepare from the TCO and training or assessment materialsRBT Handbook, Preparation sectionThe plan starts with official domains instead of a third-party chapter order
Weight domains by scored-question countsRBT Test Content Outline (3rd ed.)Total hours are divided by the official domain blueprint
Schedule every calendar day before the exam dateWidget calculation ruleWeekends and holidays are included unless you change the start or exam date
Use the same hours for each listed dayWidget calculation ruleA day assigned to domain C gets the same hours as a day assigned to domain B
Keep practice results separate from passing scoreRBT Handbook, Scoring MethodologyThe output never labels a practice percentage as a BACB pass mark

The RBT Handbook says the examination is currently based on the 3rd-edition RBT Test Content Outline, and the handbook recommends reviewing that outline plus materials gathered from 40-hour training and the Competency Assessment. The handbook also says the BACB cannot endorse specific study guides or guarantee an outcome from purchased study materials.

Official Blueprint Used by the Widget#

This table shows the official scored-exam weights used for the hour allocation. These are not the practice-item counts on this article.

DomainScored questionsPercent of scored exam items
A. Data Collection and Graphing1317%
B. Behavior Assessment811%
C. Behavior Acquisition1925%
D. Behavior Reduction1419%
E. Documentation and Reporting1013%
F. Ethics1115%

The widget also lists matching study-guide and quiz links for each assigned domain when those pages are available in the rendered site. If a domain page or quiz is still being prepared, the output tells the reader to use the study guide or practice hub instead of inventing a route.

Worked Example#

The example below matches the implemented calculation: every calendar day is counted, the exam date itself is not assigned, and no final-review reserve is removed.

Assume a candidate enters:

FieldValue
Plan start2026-10-01
Exam date2026-10-29
Hours per day2

The date range contains 28 assigned study days, from 2026-10-01 through 2026-10-28. Total study time is:

28 days x 2 hours per day = 56 hours

The hour allocation divides those 56 hours by the official domain counts out of 75 scored questions.

DomainFormulaBlueprint-based hours
A. Data Collection and Graphing56 x 13 / 759.71
B. Behavior Assessment56 x 8 / 755.97
C. Behavior Acquisition56 x 19 / 7514.19
D. Behavior Reduction56 x 14 / 7510.45
E. Documentation and Reporting56 x 10 / 757.47
F. Ethics56 x 11 / 758.21

The daily list then spreads those domain assignments across the date range. For this example, the first days are C, D, A, F, E, B, C, D, A, and C, each for 2 hours.

Practice Items#

These original questions test study-planning decisions through TCO skills rather than copied exam content. This article has two A-domain items and one E-domain item; that small set is for article practice, not the official exam blueprint.

1. During review, Amina graphs her last five data-summary scores as 40%, 48%, 55%, 63%, and 70%. Which description best fits the pattern she should use for planning?

A The points do not stay flat or move randomly across the review sessions.
B Correct. The scores increase across sessions, so the graph shows an upward trend.
C Stable responding would show little change in level across the plotted points.
D A final point does not erase the pattern shown by earlier data.

2. Leo missed 6 prompting questions out of 20 missed questions in a mixed practice set. What percentage of his missed-question review should be tagged as prompting?

A Fourteen percent does not match 6 divided by 20.
B Twenty percent would match 4 of 20 missed questions.
C Twenty-six percent is not the result of the given numerator and denominator.
D Correct. Six divided by 20 equals 0.30, and 0.30 multiplied by 100 equals 30%.

3. Priya's practice notes show repeated errors with an extinction procedure, and her clinic training notes conflict with a study handout. What should she do before using that procedure in service?

A A shorter handout does not resolve conflicting clinical instructions before service.
B Coworker preference does not establish the correct direction for a clinical procedure.
C Correct. The RBT Test Content Outline task E.2 includes seeking clinical direction for training needs and data irregularities.
D Contact after trying the procedure comes too late to resolve conflicting directions before service.

FAQ

What does the RBT study plan generator calculate?

The generator calculates a dated study calendar from the start date, exam date, and hours per day. It assigns every calendar day before the exam to one TCO domain and divides total hours by the official scored-item domain weights.

Does the study plan predict whether I will pass?

No. The RBT Handbook says results are pass/fail and the BACB uses the modified Angoff method to establish the passing score. A completed calendar, practice score, or self-set percentage target is only a study signal.

Should every domain get equal study time?

No. The RBT Test Content Outline gives different scored-question counts by domain, and the widget uses those counts for its first allocation. A candidate can still choose extra personal review outside the tool, but that choice is not a BACB rule or a widget input.

Why does the calendar include every day?

The current widget counts calendar days between the start date and exam date. If the output is too dense, adjust the date range or hours per day, then use your own calendar to skip days when study is not realistic.

What should I do if my exam date changes?

Update the exam date in the generator and check the BACB portal or Pearson VUE account for the actual appointment. Public tools cannot see account-specific approval windows, appointments, accommodations, or portal deadlines.
