On this page
The current RBT ethics code is RBT Ethics Code 2.0, effective 2022-01-01. There is no Ethics Code 3.0. Per the BACB RBT Ethics Code (2.0), its 29 standards are organized as general responsibilities, service responsibilities, and responsibilities to the BACB and supervisor.
Start Here#
Start with the code sections before isolated scenarios, because the standard number explains which duty controls a study situation. The rbt ethics code numbers page is the fast review page for the gift limit, self-reporting window, relationship waits, and status-report timing.
After the rules are mapped, use an rbt practice test ethics set to check whether an original study scenario is about confidentiality, competence, supervision, public statements, or multiple relationships. Mixed-domain review belongs on the broader rbt practice exam page when practice combines ethics with documentation, behavior-reduction, and supervision decisions.
Code 2.0 Standards Map#
The map below turns the 29 BACB RBT Ethics Code (2.0) standards into study themes without replacing the official code text.
| Theme | Code items | What these practice scenarios emphasize | TCO task |
|---|---|---|---|
| Honesty and professional conduct | 1.01, 1.02, 1.05, 2.03, 3.02, 3.03, 3.05 | Truthful records, credentials, feedback response, exam integrity, and intellectual property | F.1, F.6, F.9 |
| Supervision and role limits | 1.03, 1.04, 2.02, 3.01, 3.06, 3.07 | Close supervision, supervisor direction, audits, notices, and status changes | F.3, F.4 |
| Competence and scope | 1.06, 2.04, 2.05, 2.06 | Training before services, unfamiliar procedures, restrictive plans, and routing questions | F.2 |
| Culture and professional relationships | 1.07, 1.08, 1.09, 1.10, 1.12 | Bias, discrimination, multiple relationships, conflicts, and romantic or sexual boundaries | F.7, F.9, F.10 |
| Gifts and conflicts | 1.11 | Monetary value, cumulative gifts, occasional gratitude, and stricter employer policies | F.8 |
| Client welfare and confidentiality | 2.01, 2.07, 2.08, 2.09, 2.10 | Do-no-harm duties, mandated reporting, legal rights, privacy, social media, and necessary disclosure | F.1, F.5 |
| Documentation and self-reporting | 2.02, 3.04 | Accurate service records and events that must be self-reported to the BACB within 30 days | E.4, F.1 |
How To Route Ethics Scenarios#
For original ethics practice, start with the first affected relationship. Client welfare points to Section 2, supervisor and BACB duties point to Section 3, and general professional conduct points to Section 1. Per the BACB RBT Ethics Code (2.0), an RBT should protect the client, follow law and workplace policy, keep required documentation, and bring interpretation questions to the supervisor or another appropriate workplace contact named by policy.
Freshness And Source Use#
The page uses the BACB RBT Ethics Code (2.0), updated 08/2024, and the BACB RBT Test Content Outline (3rd ed.), updated 09/2024. Pages or flashcards that call another RBT ethics-code version current should be checked against those BACB documents before study use.
